LAWRENCEBURG CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS ENTERTAIN LONG AGENDA
(AUG 28, 2014)  MEMBERS OF THE LAWRENCEBURG BOARD OF MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MET IN REGULAR SESSION THURSDAY MORNING TO CONSIDER A LENGTHY AGENDA.  THE BOARD HONORED EMPLOYEE RODNEY WILKERSON ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 36 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY IN THE SANITATION AND PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENTS.  THE COUNCIL APPROVED SECOND AND FINAL READING OF ORDINANCES CONCERNING EMPLOYEE EDUCATION REIMBURSEMENT, THE TRAVEL POLICY, UPDATED BUILDING CODES AND A BUDGET AMENDMENT.  THE 2014-2015 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET WAS APPROVED ON FIRST READING.  THE SPENDING PLAN IS BASED ON THE SAME TAX RATE AS LAST YEAR.  AN ORDINANCE TO FIX A NON-REFUNDABLE 30 DOLLAR RESERVATION FEE FOR USE OF THE CITY AUDITORIUM PASSED ON SECOND AND FINAL READING.  THE BOARD VOTED TO AMEND THE LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE ROTARY CLUB TO INCLUDE A RECENT NORTH MILITARY AVENUE PROPERTY PURCHASED BY THE CLUB THAT WILL BE ADDED TO ROTARY PARK.  A RESOLUTION WAS PASSED TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM REGARDING DISTRIBUTION OF CITY LIQUOR BY THE DRINK TAXES AS REQUIRED BY A NEW STATE LAW.  THE SCHOOLS WILL RECEIVE 50 PERCENT OF THE SPECIFIED TAXES COLLECTED BY THE CITY.  COUNCIL MEMBERS ALSO AUTHORIZED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A 100 PERCENT FIREHOUSE SUBS FOUNDATION GRANT FOR MORE THAN 17 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO BE USED TO PURCHASE TURN OUT GEAR AND DECLARED CERTAIN POLICE DEPARTMENT PROPERTY AS SURPLUS TO BE SOLD IN AN ONLINE AUCTION.  ALL OTHER AGENDA ITEMS WERE APPROVED.
