LORETTO MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER THURSDAY INCIDENT

(FEB 27, 2015) A LORETTO MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, OFFICERS RESPONDED TO SEVERAL CALLS CONCERNING AN INJURED FEMALE IN THE AREA OF LEXINGTON HIGHWAY AND PEPPERTOWN ROAD IN LORETTO. UPON ARRIVAL, AUTHORITIES CALLED FOR LAWRENCE COUNTY E-M-S AND INVESTIGATORS. IN A JOINT INVESTIGATION WITH THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL CRITICAL RESPONSE TEAM, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VICTIM, 36 YEAR OLD KIMBERLY JOHNSON KILLEN OF KILLEN HAD BEEN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. A WITNESS AT THE SCENE WAS ABLE TO GIVE A DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE AND A PARTIAL TAG NUMBER. INVESTIGATORS TURNED THEIR INVESTIGATION ONTO 36 YEAR OLD JAMES TRAVIS MURKS OF LORETTO AFTER OBTAINING MORE INFORMATION AND LEARNING THAT HE AND THE VICTIM WERE IN A RELATIONSHIP AND HAD A RECENT ARGUMENT. AUTHORITIES RESPONDED TO HIS RESIDENCE ON PEPPERTOWN ROAD AND DISCOVERED A CHEVROLET S-10 PICKUP TRUCK WITH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END AND WINDSHIELD. THE EVIDENCE THAT WAS COLLECTED FROM THE TRUCK WAS  CONSISTENT WITH THE AREA WHERE THE VICTIM WAS LOCATED. AFTER A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION AND EXAMINATION OF THE SCENE, MURKS WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER AND VEHICULAR HOMICIDE. HE IS BEING HELD IN THE LAWRENCE COUNTY DETENTION CENTER WITHOUT BOND AND WILL APPEAR IN GENERAL SESSIONS COURT SOON.
